INTRODUCTION AT
AWARDS DINNER
Tonight we honor
a true champion in the fight
for truth and justice. For twenty three years, this award winner dedicated
his
career as a homicide investigator and later, Lieutenant Commander to his work
with the New York City Police Department. When he retired he was the
Commanding
Officer of the Bronx Homicide Task Force. The task force handled over four
hundred homicide investigations a year. During his career he was recognized
many times for his bravery and exceptional police work. His selection into
the
prestigious Honor Legion of the City of New York Police Department is but one
example of how his peers honored his work.
What distinguishes our honoree further is his continued service to law
enforcement. He is an internationally recognized educator, author, and
lecturer. His dedication to the professionalism of homicide investigations is
a
model for us all. He shares his homicide experiences as the author of
Practical
Homicide Investigation: Tactics, Procedures, and Forensic Techniques, which
is
considered the "'Bible for homicide investigations." The book in its fourth
edition promotes our honoree's belief that we must "do it right the first
time.
You only get one chance."
Over 50,000 members from over 7,000 law enforcement agencies have
attended seminars presented by our honoree, which he has provided over the
past
26 years.
Commander Geberth has accomplished much in his life and has been the
proud recipient of numerous accolades and awards. But clearly, whenever one
speaks with him there is no greater source of pride than his two sons who
have
followed their father's footsteps and serve proudly in the New York State
Police and NYPD.
Our honoree is a member of many nationally recognized law enforcement
professional organizations and I am proud to advise you that he is a charter
member of the IHIA.
Ladies and gentlemen, it is my distinct privilege to introduce our
honoree and award winner who continuously reminds us that "We Work for
God",
